Healio.com to offer on-site coverage of SCAI Scientific Sessions

The Cardiology Today, Cardiology Today’s Intervention and Healio.com/Cardiology team will provide live coverage from the Society for Cardiac Angiography and Interventions Scientific Sessions starting on Wednesday, May 28.

According to the SCAI website, the meeting will feature a record-breaking number of abstracts presented, including four late-breaking clinical trials slated for presentation on Friday:

  • The IQ-CATEGORIZE trial, which assessed the use of coronary catheters as objective markers for 3D quantitative coronary angiography to detect severe occult stenosis.
  • One-year results of the ORBIT-II trial, which evaluated the Diamondback 360° coronary orbital atherectomy system to treat de novo, severely calcified lesions.
  • The RadiCure study, which assessed use of a real-time radiation monitoring device during cardiac catheterization.
  • The VERIFY-2 study, which compared the effects of stenosis severity indices derived from hyperemic and nonhyperemic pressure wire on lesion level assessment.

In addition to the presented research, the meeting will feature a series of “Heart Team Approach” sessions, intended to focus on multiple members of a cath lab team, including critical care nurses, CV invasive specialists and other roles in diagnostic and interventional cardiology. Other highlights will include a presentation on the potential uses of GoogleGlass for improving outcomes in cardiology, and a series of satellite symposia covering topics including new frontiers in CV medicine and treatment for venous thromboembolism, antithrombotic treatment for STEMI among primary PCI recipients, and the future of DAPT and stents.

The conference will also feature three keynote lectures: The Founder’s Lecture, to be presented by Martin Leon, MD, FSCAI, will outline progression in the field of interventional cardiology and how the past of the specialty can influence its future; the Mullins Lecture, by James E. Lock, MD, will address the need for innovation in CHD therapy and the steps to take in order to achieve it; and the Hildner Lecture, by Patrick T. O’Gara, MD, will discuss a potential future shortage in the CV workforce, its history and future strategies to address it.

Our team will report onsite in Las Vegas throughout the Scientific Sessions, which wrap on May 31. Visit Healio.com/Cardiology for breaking news, video perspectives from experts in the field on major trial results, and more.
