'Legends' honored at 2012 ACC Scientific Sessions

At this year’s conference, the American College of Cardiology honored five experts in cardiology as part of the Legends of Cardiovascular Medicine Lecture Series. Each individual is recognized by their colleagues in the cardiology profession as a true leader and innovator, and was selected based on their outstanding contributions to the field of CV medicine.
This year’s honorees were: Eugene Braunwald, MD, MACC, a Cardiology Today Editorial Board member, who lectured on the history and future of acute MI; Magdi Yacoub, MB, BCh, FACC, who discussed the current state of cardiac surgery; Jane Somerville, MD, MACC, who spoke about 50 years with cardiac surgeons; Valentin Fuster, MD, PhD, MACC, who shared with the audience the challenge of identifying subclinical disease; and Antonio Colombo, MD, FACC, who provided personal insights leading to scientific developments in cardiology.
