In July, Robert A. Harrington, MD, current director of the Duke Clinical Research Institute, will become chairman of the department of medicine at Stanford University. In that role, he will help lead Stanford’s academic health system and build a world-class department in research, education and clinical care. He will also play a leadership role in a new cross-campus initiative on population health science.

Eric D. Peterson, MD, MPH, has been appointed director of the Duke Clinical Research Institute, succeeding Harrington and Robert M. Califf, MD, its founder. Peterson is currently director of the coordinating center for the NHLBI’s Centers for Cardiovascular Outcomes Research and principal investigator for the AHRQ Duke Center for Education and Research on Therapeutics, among other research leadership roles, according to a press release issued by Duke.

“I’ve loved my time at Duke. We’ve done some great things, and Eric has been critical to our success. Eric is well suited to succeed me at the DCRI in this changing research environment. Not only do I have full confidence in him, but I look forward to exploring future coast-to-coast collaborations between Duke and Stanford,” Harrington said in the release.
