Apotex has paid Sanofi-Aventis and Bristol-Myers Squibb $442,209,362 to satisfy the ruling of the patent infringement case brought by the two manufacturers in March 2002.
The payment follows the decision of the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in October 2011, and represents the final phase of the clopidogrel (Plavix) patent litigation between the companies. Sanofi-Aventis and Bristol-Myers Squibb were also awarded $1,258,682 in post-judgment interest and $900,000 in costs in addition to the damages.
