The University of Michigan Medical School announced a new professorship in CV medicine, named after cardiologist and Scripps Health chief academic officer Eric J. Topol, MD.

The professorship was created as a way to acknowledge Topol for his advancements in the field of cardiology. In 2004, Topol was granted membership into the National Academy of Sciences/Institute of Medicine. His extensive research and dedication to the field of cardiology helped him discover key genes, which have been honored by the American Heart Association and other organizations and societies.
