In 2008 and 2009, the Imaging section of Cardiology Today will focus on identifying new developments in cardiovascular imaging that are useful to facilitate the management of patients with cardiovascular disease.

To accomplish this goal, Cardiology Today will highlight and comment on:

  • New technical and clinical data presented at scientific meetings and written material.
  • Review the topic of structured imaging data element reporting.
  • Heighten awareness of collaborations between different groups of physicians and extenders that facilitate, and the performance of cardiovascular imaging procedures within medical care delivery systems.

Emphasis will be placed on presenting balanced positions that emphasize the benefits as well as the difficulties in implementing these objectives. Supporting information will be gathered from physicians and other individuals such as administrators, finance officers, technologists and engineers that may be involved with the process of cardiovascular imaging. The intent of this effort is to provide those individuals providing care for individuals with CVD with the most update modern information necessary to accomplish imaging procedures that are used in the practice of cardiovascular medicine.

W. Gregory Hundley, MD, is Professor in Internal Medicine and Radiology, and Medical Director of Cardiovascular MRI at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
