Trial determined whether risk stratification tests could predict serious arrhythmic events after acute MI in patients with reduced LVEF (≤0.40).

Patients: 5,869

Centers: multicenter

Countries: Europe

RESULTS: The strongest predictors of the primary endpoint of electrocardiogram-documented ventricular fibrillation or symptomatic sustained ventricular tachycardia were measures of heart rate variability; for example, HR for reduced very-low frequency component (<5.7 in ms2) adjusted for clinical variables, which was 7.0 (95% CI, 2.4–20.3; P<.001).
