THOROFARE, N.J. — SLACK Incorporated, publisher of Cardiology Today, and the Cardiovascular Research Foundation, the organizers of Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics, have announced the January 2012 launch of a new bimonthly publication for interventional cardiologists — Cardiology Today Intervention.

The new publication is a unique collaboration of educational missions that unites the news platform and specialty reporting expertise of Cardiology Today with the premier organization representing the interventional cardiology community, the Cardiovascular Research Foundation (CRF).

The newsmagazine-style publication will present step-by-step clinical articles on interventional procedures that will be augmented by Cardiology Today’s innovative perspectives from guest experts. Cardiology Today Intervention will focus on coronary, peripheral, carotid, cerebrovascular and structural procedures by reporting on clinical trials and studies, as well as practice management issues shaping interventional cardiology.

“As Chief Medical Editor, I look forward to unveiling this exciting new resource for the interventional cardiology community. Driven by a strong joint commitment by Cardiology Today and CRF, Cardiology Today Intervention will help keep specialists informed on the most-needed updates in our profession, ultimately contributing to improved outcomes for our patients. With new studies, treatments and diagnostic techniques advancing, this new publication will address the professional needs of the interventional cardiologist,” said Deepak L. Bhatt, MD, MPH, in a press release.

The Chief Scientific Officer of the clinical trials center at CRF, Roxana Mehran, MD, has been named the Associate Medical Editor of Cardiology Today Intervention.

“For 2 decades, CRF has advanced its mission of developing and advocating for the use of safe and effective minimally invasive cardiovascular treatments. The new publication is keeping with CRF’s stated goal of educating clinical practitioners to ensure that the work of physicians and researchers is translated to improved care for patients with cardiovascular disease,” Mehran said.

SLACK Incorporated is a leading publisher of specialty newspapers for physicians.

“By working collaboratively to create a new, technique- and technology-focused periodical for interventional cardiologists, Cardiology Today and CRF will each further their stated goals and missions. In addition, the new venture will strengthen the CRF/SLACK relationship, through which the TCT Daily convention newspaper has been produced for 8 years,” said Joan-Marie Stiglich, ELS, senior vice president of SLACK Incorporated. “We are very excited about our continued collaboration with CRF.”

The first issue of Cardiology Today Intervention will be published in January 2012. The pilot issue will be unveiled at TCT 2011 in San Francisco.
