Activity Description

Although the impact of influenza varies, it places a substantial burden on the health of people in the United States each year. Unfortunately, there is an unmet need for better diagnostic modalities, treatment for patients with influenza infection, preventative measures, and mitigation for the impact of a pandemic. Antiviral agents with different targets and mechanisms of action provide multiple therapeutic options, including combinations of 2 or more compounds, holding promise to improve treatment effectiveness. In this recorded live continuing medical education presentation, expert faculty will examine various diagnostic modalities and therapies used for patients with influenza.

Target Audience

The intended audience for this activity is family physicians and other health care professionals involved in the management of patients with influenza.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this educational activity, the participant may be better able to:

• Utilize diagnostic assays that offer improved sensitivity, specificity, and convenience in influenza detection.
• Apply knowledge about mechanisms of action, efficacy, dosage, and administration when selecting antiviral therapies to treat influenza.
• Incorporate antiviral therapies into practice for prophylaxis, prevention, and treatment of influenza to reduce the duration of illness, viral shedding, as well as complications.

How to Participate in this Activity and Obtain CME Credit

To participate in this CME activity, you must read the objectives, answer the pretest questions, view the content, and complete the posttest and evaluation. Provide only one (1) correct answer for each question. A satisfactory score is defined as answering 2 of the 3 posttest questions correctly. Upon receipt of the completed materials, if a satisfactory score on the posttest is achieved, Vindico Medical Education will issue a Prescribed credit(s) AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™ Certificate.
