Activity Description

Evolving technologies and refined techniques for cataract and refractive surgery continue to develop, increasing the number of options for improving visual acuity and enhancing patient quality of life. Successful cataract and refractive surgery rely on an interprofessional team, each playing a role in the multifactorial process from preoperative assessment to postoperative care. Of the many vision correction techniques available, selection can be challenging and must take into consideration patient preferences, characteristics, and expectations. In this CE monograph, experts in the field discuss the need for presurgical preparation of the cataract and refractive surgery patient, including the importance of lid and ocular surface disease management. They also evaluate new and emerging options for the evaluation and management of patients with presbyopia; describe advanced tools and techniques for the refractive cataract surgeon; assess the latest evidence regarding the management of inflammation, pain, infection, and miosis; and review interprofessional approaches to care that can improve efficiency and overall outcomes for patients undergoing cataract refractive procedures.

Target Audience

The intended audience for this activity is ophthalmologists, optometrists, and other healthcare professionals involved in the management of patients undergoing cataract and/or refractive surgery.

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
