Activity Description

Therapeutic and surgical algorithms for the management and treatment of patients with retinal diseases continue to evolve, while management protocols are being further refined in light of real-world outcomes. Recognizing and understanding these evidence-based treatment advances are imperative to enhance treatment outcomes and patient quality of life, yet staying up to date with the latest evidence from clinical trials as well as emerging diagnostic and treatment options can be challenging. To address these ongoing needs, "Evidence-Based Approaches to Diagnose, Treat, and Manage Patients With Retinal Diseases" contains clinical trial summaries written by trainees of the 3rd Annual Retina Summit for Fellows and Residents that took place on September 23 and 24, 2023.

Target Audience

The intended audience for this activity is ophthalmologists, ophthalmology residents, retina fellows, and other healthcare professionals involved in the management of patients with retinal diseases.

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

  • Assess diagnostic modalities that can improve the early detection of retinal diseases.
  • Describe advances in imaging that can improve the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of retinal disorders.
  • Examine evidence-based medicine, best practices, and treatment algorithms that can improve the medical management of retinal diseases.
  • Recognize how data from key clinical trials can be applied to practice and improve the treatment of retinal vascular disorders.
  • Evaluate new evidence regarding the use of multimodal therapeutic regimens in the treatment of retinal vascular disorders.
  • Examine evidence-based practices, procedures, and technology that improve the surgical management of retinal disorders.
  • Summarize key patient-focused, as well as practice management, processes and procedures that can improve overall care and outcomes.
  • Share clinical experiences with expert retina specialists in the field to improve clinical and surgical practice, as well as patient care.
