Activity Description
Alopecia Areata (AA) is a systemic autoimmune condition that usually starts in childhood, affects all age groups, and imparts a severe impact and burden, especially in children and adolescents. The therapeutic landscape for severe AA has expanded with the recent approval of Janus kinase inhibitor therapy, providing an important new treatment option that may improve outcomes for those with this condition. Education on evidence-based approaches to diagnosis, assessment, management of pediatric AA is required to stay up to date with the latest developments in the field. This interactive infographic activity addresses the pathophysiology and burden of AA and reviews best practices for diagnosis and management of pediatric and adolescent patients. Modules will also highlight the current clinical evidence and describe strategies for incorporating patient-focused care to lessen the negative impacts of AA on patient quality of life.
Target Audience
The intended audience for this activity is dermatologists, pediatric dermatologists, pediatricians, nurse practitioners, and physician associates involved in the management of children and adolescent patients with alopecia areata (AA).
Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
- Detail the prevalence, burden, and pathophysiology of AA in children and adolescents
- Utilize diagnostic and assessment tools that effectively distinguish as well as measure the severity of AA in children and adolescents
- Select treatments for AA that are efficacious, safe, and improve quality of life in children and adolescents
- Incorporate patient-focused, interprofessional care that improves the well-being and quality of life in children and adolescents with AA
