Venous Thromboembolism

Rivaroxaban and dabigatran reduced the risk for venous thromboembolism in children, according to three studies presented at the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis Congress.

Extended treatment with oral edoxaban appeared comparable to subcutaneous dalteparin in safety and effectiveness for prevention of recurrent venous thromboembolism and major bleeding among patients with active cancer, according to results of a post-hoc analysis published in Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis.

Venous thromboembolism — which includes deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism — causes up to 100,000 deaths annually in the United States and affects patients in numerous health care settings, regardless of age.
