A Bay Area bioelectronic medicine company announced the commercial launch of its next-generation Cala kIQ System, an FDA-cleared wearable device to relieve hand tremors in people with essential tremor and Parkinson’s disease.

An increased risk for Parkinson’s disease was associated with a range of factors, comorbidities and prodromal features, some of which may appear 5 to 10 years prior to diagnosis, according to a study in JAMA Neurology.

Focused ultrasound subthalamotomy improved motor features in a group of patients with asymmetric signs of Parkinson’s disease, although adverse events were “frequent,” according to results published in The New England Journal of Medicine.
