We are all familiar with and routinely utilize condensing and aspheric lenses at the slit lamp during comprehensive eye exams. The lenses produce a magnified, inverted image to optimize visualization of retinal structures. Once we master the technique, these “accessory” lenses are a great assist while performing retinal laser applications to treat pathology such as diabetic retinopathy through a slit lamp.

PARIS — At the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons meeting, Farhad Hafezi, MD, PhD, presented for the first time the EMAGine technology that brings cross-linking for keratoconus and keratitis to the slit lamp. He spoke about the advantages of this new method, making the procedure easier and more widely available, including in developing countries where there may be no access to an operating room.
