WASHINGTON — Most prescribed opioids remain unused after elective outpatient arthroscopic procedures, and one-quarter of patients plan to keep remaining medication for future use, according to results of a study presented here.

The most common procedures for the surgical management of irreparable cuff tears include partial repair, SCR, the subacromial balloon, reverse shoulder arthroplasty and tendon transfers, particularly lower trapezius transfers.

LAS VEGAS — Results showed implementation of an opioid-sparing pain management protocol may reduce opioid consumption compared with a standard opioid prescription protocol in patients undergoing outpatient shoulder and knee arthroscopy.

LAS VEGAS — Although melatonin use led to an initial decreased sleep quality after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, sleep quality improved by 26 weeks postoperatively, according to results presented here.

Current data do support the potential for PRP to improve the outcomes of rotator cuff repair.
