Severe Hypertriglyceridemia

ATLANTA — Plozasiran provided sustained reduction in triglycerides, apolipoprotein C-III and remnant cholesterol out to 48 weeks for patients with severe hypertriglyceridemia, a speaker reported.

The FDA has granted orphan drug designation to Ionis Pharmaceuticals’ olezarsen, an investigational ligand-conjugated antisense drug for the treatment of familial chylomicronemia syndrome, according to a company release.

PHILADELPHIA — Three phase 2 trials, two of apolipoprotein C-III inhibition and one of angiopoietin-like protein 3 inhibition, demonstrated the efficacy and safety of dyslipidemia treatment via RNA interference.

Among patients with severe hypertriglyceridemia who underwent MRI proton density fat fraction, clinically meaningful hepatic steatosis appeared to be common, according to a presenter at the National Lipid Association Scientific Sessions.
