NEW ORLEANS — The $210 billion spent annually on global vision correction suggests potential growth for refractive surgery, according to a speaker.

Patients who underwent refractive surgery with the iDesign platform had better uncorrected distance vision and a better chance of achieving 20/20 vision compared with those who underwent treatment with the WaveScan system.

There were 190,911 laser vision correction procedures performed in the third quarter of 2021, marking a 48% year-to-date increase over 2020, according to a press release from the Refractive Surgery Council.
