Hospitalized pediatric patients who were given direct oral challenges for penicillin allergies saw success in delabeling, according to a study published in The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology: In Practice.

HOUSTON — A 6-month implementation study improved nurses’ evaluation of penicillin allergies among perioperative patients, as is recommended by the CDC for antimicrobial stewardship programs, researchers reported.

A new point-of-care clinical decision tool, PEN-FAST, may help identify patients with reported penicillin allergies who can safely undergo oral challenges and receive beta-lactam antibiotics without needing formal allergy testing, according to research published in JAMA Internal Medicine.
