Invasive Fungal Infection

Two widely available serum marker blood tests, galactomannan and 1,2-beta-D-glucan, may improve diagnostic sensitivity in cases of invasive fungal infections, according to a study.

The 1-year incidence of invasive fungal infections among patients taking small molecule kinase inhibitors was as high as 10.6%, a study found. The incidence was 3% for patients on ibrutinib.

Researchers writing in Open Forum Infectious Diseases recently provided a snapshot of the antifungal pipeline, which includes some drugs with novel mechanisms of action to overcome resistance.
