Compared with the posterior approach to total hip arthroplasty, the direct anterior approach lowered the risk of dislocation and revision, while increasing survivorship, according to published results.

According to recently published results, the “true cumulative incidence” of hip dislocation, including revisions and closed reductions, after primary total hip arthroplasty is 3.5%, a 50% increase compared with register-coded dislocations.

Robotic-assisted total hip arthroplasty may provide accurate component positioning and be associated with low dislocation rates, especially when using the posterior-lateral approach, according to results.

Results showed patients who underwent lumbar spinal fusion prior to total hip arthroplasty experienced a higher rate of dislocations compared with patients who underwent THA first.
