ATLANTA — Secondary glaucomas are related to aqueous outflow and can require closer management, Mitch Ibach, OD, FAAO, said at SECO 2024.

In a 2020 position statement on microinvasive glaucoma surgery, the American Glaucoma Society said:

The volume of minimally invasive glaucoma surgery has increased significantly in recent years, providing an alternative to traditional glaucoma surgeries.

In the United States, we are now required by the ICD-10 system of coding to provide a seven-digit code when billing for glaucoma.

The reason the NICE guidelines advise trabeculectomy at presentation with advanced disease is simply that the greatest risk factor for severe visual loss in glaucoma is advanced disease at presentation.
