Ontera and QuantuMDx announced that they will collaborate on a technology to quickly detect bloodstream infections and drug resistance, with an aim toward improving outcomes for patients with sepsis.

The implementation of a novel central-line insertion site assessment score reduced the prevalence of lines with local inflammation or infections, ensured timely response to localized symptoms and reduce central line dwell time at a hospital in California, researchers reported.

In an 8-year study, researchers found that 14.4% of bloodstream infections identified in patients within 2 weeks of hospital discharge had been acquired during hospitalization and would have been misclassified as health care-associated community onset bloodstream infections — rather than hospital-onset infections — without the inclusion of their history.

The prevalence of health care-associated infections in Canadian hospitals declined 30% between 2009 and 2017, falling to 7.9%, researchers reported.
