Bicuspid Aortic Valve Disease

In younger patients with severe aortic stenosis at low surgical risk, transcatheter aortic valve replacement was associated with similar outcomes to surgical AVR, except in those with bicuspid valves, researchers reported.

In patients at low surgical risk who underwent transcatheter aortic valve replacement with a balloon-expandable valve, those with bicuspid aortic valves had no excess death and stroke risk compared with those with tricuspid aortic valves.

A strategy of screening first-degree relatives of patients with bicuspid aortic valves was cost-effective and cost-saving, researchers reported at the European Society of Cardiology Congress.
