DENVER — In this Healio video exclusive, Maria Rodriguez, MD, MPH, discusses how access to contraceptive care is directly tied to maternal morbidity and mortality as well as other reproductive health outcomes.
“Policy has a direct impact on the reproductive health services that we are able to provide for people,” Rodriguez, director of the Center for Women’s Health and the Center for Reproductive Health Equity and the Julie Neupert Stott Endowed Professor in Women’s Health at Oregon Health and Science University, told Healio. “Medicaid in particular plays a fundamental role in terms of what services people can access, where they are available, quality and how often they are used.”
Rodriguez gave a keynote lecture about policy solutions to promote equitable contraception access at the ASRM Scientific Congress & Expo.
“No one method or no one strategy is going to work for everybody. That is OK,” Rodriguez told Healio. “What we want to do is promote access to informed choice from the full range of FDA-approved methods for people who want to either limit or space families.”
