Brigham and Women’s Hospital named best US hospital for OB/GYN care

Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston was named the best hospital in the United States for OB/GYN care by U.S. News & World Report.

“There is a deep commitment and long legacy of support for women’s health care at the Brigham and we are thrilled to be recognized as the top OB/GYN specialty in the country,” Nawal Nour, MD, MPH, chair of the department of OB/GYN at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, said in a press release from the institution. “Our team of professionals is dedicated to ensuring high-quality, comprehensive and patient-focused care to all of our patients while recognizing each of their individual, and often very personal, needs.”

The hospital — which U.S. News also ranked as No. 14 on its 2022-2023 overall best hospitals honor roll — replaced Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, in the No. 1 spot for hospitals specializing in OB/GYN care. The Mayo Clinic in Rochester retained its high standing as the second-best OB/GYN hospital.

Following Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Mayo Clinic, Rochester, U.S. News ranked the following institutions as the best for OB/GYN care:

3. Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis

4. Cleveland Clinic

5. University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital

6. Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore

7. Long Island Jewish Medical Center at Northwell Health, New Hyde Park, New York

8. UCLA Medical Center, Los Angeles

9. Stanford Health Care-Stanford Hospital, Stanford, California

10. Inova Fairfax Hospital, Falls Church, Virginia

According to the release from U.S. News, the institutions’ ranks were decided through objective measures such as survival rates, patient experience, nursing care and how successful they were in helping patients return home.

“For patients considering their options for where to get care, the Best Hospitals

rankings are designed to help them and their medical professionals identify

hospitals that excel in the kind of care they may need,” Ben Harder, chief of health analysis and managing editor at U.S. News, said in the release.
