DESTIN, Fla. — The 12th annual North American Young Rheumatology Forum provides a unique opportunity for rheumatology trainees, as well as first-year medical students interested in entering the specialty, to present their research, according to Janet Pope, MD, MPH, FRCPC, a member of the event’s judging panel faculty.

The event is associated with the annual Congress of Clinical Rheumatology, which is scheduled to begin Thursday, May 17.

This year’s forum included more than 60 case reports, presentations and posters, in subjects ranging from the financial costs of cardiovascular risks involved in psoriatic arthritis, to how to diagnose and treat rare rheumatologic diseases.

“What I find is really amazing about this event, of what we’ve seen so far, is that there are a lot of participants, and they are basically looking at what they have learned in their training to date,” Pope, a professor of medicine at Western University, in London, Ontario, Canada, told Healio Rheumatology. “I think this forum is really key, not only for trainees to have a venue to present, but also anyone who attends, to find the breadth and depth of what our young investigators are looking at right now.” – by Jason Laday
