ORLANDO, Fla. — At the Rheumatology Nurses Society Annual Conference, Iris Zink, MSN, RN, ANP-BC, RN-BC, discussed the risk of infection and the use of biologics for patients with rheumatic diseases.

“It is not actually the drugs that carry the infection risk. It is the disease,” she said.

Zink said rheumatology health care providers should educate patients so that the drugs can be used early and aggressively to control the disease in the hopes of pulling back later if they are able to taper.
