ORLANDO, Fla. — At the Rheumatology Nurses Society Annual Conference, Cathy Patty-Resk, MSN, RN, CPNP-PC, spoke about the American Disabilities Act as it covers children with disabilities, including chronic diseases such as rheumatologic disorders, in the school setting. Rheumatologic health care providers can help work to keep their patients in the school setting, rather than placing children in home-bound educational settings. She said it is important that children receive the accommodations and 504 plans they need prior to or upon exiting high school, so they can transition into college with their accommodations in place.
