DESTIN, Fla. — At the Congress of Clinical Rheumatology Annual Meeting, Svetlana Krasnokutsky, MD, MS, from NYU Langone Medical Center, spoke about an association between osteoarthritis and gout.

As there are associations both ways between osteoarthritis and gout, Krasnokutsky said there are also associations between osteoarthritis severity and gout. In addition, she talked about how the environment of the osteoarthritic joint could allow for uric acid crystallization and lead to gout and how there are ongoing studies of gout drugs used for osteoarthritis.
