DESTIN, Fla. — At the Congress of Clinical Rheumatology Annual Meeting, Daniel M. Doleys, PhD, from the Pain & Clinic Institute in Alabama, spoke about chronic pain and how treatment should not be focused on getting rid of the pain, but adapting to it.

For treatment of chronic pain, Doleys said physicians should focus less on a patient’s sensory aspect of pain and focus more on a patient’s inactivity, dietary issues, lack of social support, depression and anxiety. He also said the emphasis should be doing more “with” patients rather than “to” patients.
