VIDEO: Rheumatologists miss patients with axial spondyloarthritis

NEW YORK — At the Interdisciplinary Autoimmune Summit, Atul A. Deodhar, MD, professor of medicine and medical director at the Oregon Health and Science University, spoke about the integration of care in spondyloarthritis to ensure that these patients are not being missed.
Deodhar mentioned that the prevalence of axial spondyloarthritis (AS) is around 1% in the United States — higher than the 0.6% prevalence of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) — and yet, rheumatologists see more patients with RA than patients with AS. In the video, Deodhar describes how care needs to be integrated to fix this problem.
