WASHINGTON — At the American College of Rheumatology Annual Meeting, Robert M. Clancy, PhD, of the division of rheumatology at NYU Langone Medical Center, reviewed his study on lupus biomarkers located in non-sun-exposed and nonlesional skin of the buttocks.

Using tissue from this area of the skin, Clancy and colleagues performed RNA sequencing to obtain the transcriptomes of single cells, which were then associated with levels of kidney injury and future treatment outcomes. Clancy said this skin type is a more accessible tissue source that can be informative for patients with lupus.
