WASHINGTON — At the American College of Rheumatology Annual Meeting, Ashira Blazer, MD, of the Division of Rheumatology at NYU School of Medicine, reviewed her study on the genetics of atherosclerosis in African-American patients with lupus.
Blazer and colleagues found patients with A1 polymorphisms — even with heterozygous polymorphisms — had an increased risk for atherosclerotic disease. They also found patients who had the genotype had a higher risk for avascular sclerosis.
