Royal Philips announced the release of Lumify, a subscription-based smart device ultrasound solution for purchase by licensed U.S. health care providers and organizations.
The Lumify system links compatible Android devices, including phones and tablets, with transducers linked through an app. Providers who use the system will have access to Philips’ online portal to order transducers, manage subscriptions, or access support or training for the system. Subscriptions have been offered at an introductory, starting price of $199 per month. Transducers suited to musculoskeletal, vascular, pulmonary, soft tissue and superficial imaging are available, and the company expects to release additional transducers, services and apps at regular intervals, according to a company press release.
“Lumify has the potential to provide on-demand, point-of-care diagnostics in a more connected environment,” Bret Nelson, MD, associate professor of emergency medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, said in the release. “We have been using the Philips smart device ultrasound with our medical students. Leveraging a familiar device with portable diagnostic testing makes learning ultrasound easier for new users and more convenient for experienced imagers. I think that convenience and availability will increase the utility of this technology, improving patient care and efficiency.”
“Lumify leverages advanced digital health technology to provide critical information to the right people at the right time, transforming how we approach care delivery and connecting the various touch points along the health continuum,” Randy Hamlin, vice president and business segment leader, Ultra Mobile, for Philips, said in the release.
