The Lupus Foundation of America announced it is accepting applications from lupus investigators, who may be awarded funding for lupus research.
This year, the foundation has added new grants in the focus areas of environmental triggers of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and SLE flares and Health Outcomes in Pediatric Lupus to improve the long- and short-term outcomes of juvenile patients with SLE, according to a press release.
Additional areas of focus include The Career Development Award, which supports professional development of early career fellows; the LIFELINE Grant Program, which provides 1 year of salary to faculty who experience a gap in external funding for a study already underway; the Stem Cells in Lupus grant, which aims to accelerate the discovery of potential therapeutic benefits of adult stem cell therapy in patients with SLE; and the Gina M. Finzi Memorial Student Summer Fellowship Program, which is designed to cultivate an interest in SLE research among young scientists.
“The Lupus Foundation of America National Research Program is essential to funding the critical research of investigators who are on the brink of scientific breakthroughs in lupus,” Amr H. Sawalha, MD, research subcommittee chair and medical-scientific advisory council member of the Lupus Foundation of America, said in the release. “The two new lupus grants added to the Foundation’s comprehensive research program this year are focusing on areas that are understudied and underfunded. … Funding for these critical projects have the potential to impact patients’ lives today and will bring us a step closer to treatments and cures for people with lupus.”
Applications are due by March 31 and can be submitted online, according to the release.
