Sandhya Khurana, MD, FCCP, spoke with Healio about a panel discussion regarding updates in allergy for asthma from the CHEST Annual Meeting.

The session highlighted a multidisciplinary approach to treating asthma with emphasis on the importance of evaluating an asthma patient for allergic comorbidities and how they may affect outcomes, according to Khurana, director of the Mary Parkes Center for Asthma, Allergy and Pulmonary Care and professor of pulmonary and critical care medicine at the University of Rochester Medical Center.

“We received an update on allergic or atopic comorbidities that are present with asthma that we don’t always think about, including eosinophilic esophagitis, rhinosinusitis, atopic dermatitis and also the role of allergy immunotherapy in asthma,” Khurana said in a video interview.
