NASHVILLE, Tenn. — In this Healio exclusive, Samantha Pettigrew, MD, discusses CHEST’s 2021 update to its clinical guidelines on using anticoagulation for venous thromboembolism at the CHEST Annual Meeting.

Pettigrew reviews common questions regarding anticoagulation that both individuals in training and patients may have, which are addressed in the guideline statement, such as which cases of pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis need treatment and the appropriate duration of therapy.

“It’s actually very nuanced,” Pettigrew told Healio. “It becomes even more nuanced when you have a living, breathing patient in front of you.”

Pettigrew is a second-year pulmonary critical care fellow at Temple University Hospital.
