Mayo Clinic ranked No. 1 US hospital for pulmonology, lung surgery

The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, has been named the No. 1 hospital in the United States for pulmonology and lung surgery by U.S. News & World Report, according to its 2020-2021 Best Hospital rankings.

The top 10 U.S. hospitals for pulmonology and lung surgery according to the 2020-2021 Best Hospitals rankings are:

• Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota;
• National Jewish Health, Denver-University of Colorado Hospital, Aurora;
• Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles;
• Cleveland Clinic;
• University of California, Los Angeles, Medical Center;
• Mayo Clinic, Phoenix;
• Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore;
• University of Michigan Hospitals, Michigan Medicine, Ann Arbor;
• University of California, San Francisco, Medical Center; and
• University of California San Diego Health, Jacobs Medical Center.

Mayo Clinic was also ranked the No. 1 hospital nationwide, the fifth consecutive year that the hospital has received the top ranking. Additionally, Cleveland Clinic was ranked No. 2 and Johns Hopkins Hospital was ranked No. 3 on the Best Hospitals Honor Roll list.

U.S. News & World Report compared more than 4,500 medical centers nationwide in the following specialties: cancer; cardiology and heart surgery; diabetes and endocrinology; ear, nose and throat; gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery; geriatrics; gynecology; nephrology; neurology and neurosurgery; ophthalmology; orthopedics; psychiatry; pulmonology and lung surgery; rehabilitation; rheumatology; and urology.

According to U.S. News & World Report, the hospital data were obtained before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, and for future reports, modifications to the ranking methodology may be made to account for the impact on the pandemic on hospital measures.
