The FDA has issued a warning against the purchase or use of products that contain tianeptine, which has been illegally sold with claims to improve brain function and treat anxiety, depression, pain, opioid use disorder and other conditions.

According to an FDA press release, the agency has received severe adverse event reports following use of Neptune’s Fix products, including seizures and loss of consciousness. Tianeptine has not been approved by the FDA for any medical use.

Neptune Fix’s labels state the product contains tianeptine but may contain other harmful ingredients not listed on the label, the FDA stated. The products, which are sold online and at gas stations and vape and smoke shops, are currently being tested, and more information will be released when it becomes available.

Health care professionals and consumers are advised to report adverse events or side effects related to the use of this product to MedWatch, the FDA’s Safety Information and Adverse Event reporting program, here.
