VIDEO: As-needed zuranolone treatment may be effective for depression
SAN FRANCISCO — A short-course treatment of zuranolone taken on an as-needed basis may be effective in treating major depression, according to a presentation at the American Psychiatric Association annual meeting.
Using data from the SHORELINE study, Gregory W. Mattingly, MD and colleagues evaluated patient-reported improvements in depressive symptoms following a 2-week treatment of once-daily zuranolone at either 30 mg or 50 mg doses.
“What we found is, at the 30 mg dose, about 70% of people had a significant response with their depression at the end of 2 weeks,” Mattingly said in this Healio video. “At the 50 mg dose ... close to 80% of people had a significant response at the end of 2 weeks.
Mattingly said that taking it as needed, 70% to 80% of patients needed only one or two courses of treatment in a 1-year span.
