WASHINGTON — The Anxiety and Depression Association of America announced Emily Belleau, PhD, as its 2023 recipient of the Donald F. Klein Early Career Investigator Award.
Belleau, a clinical psychologist and assistant professor of psychology at McLean Hospital at Harvard Medical School in Belmont, Massachusetts, was chosen for her research on the neurobiological mechanisms of cognitive and affective impairments in disorders such as major depressive disorder and PTSD. Belleau’s most recent work examines “neural mechanisms underlying blunted responses to appetitive contexts (ie, positive valence systems), and how negative and positive valence systems may interact to contribute to the development of stress-related disorders,” according to the ADAA website.
Belleau will receive the award at the award ceremony and closing reception of the conference being hosted in Washington, D.C., on Saturday.
ADAA also announced the best posters being presented at the conference, which highlight posters from early career professionals; posters from a student, postdoctoral student or trainee; posters on a topic related to diversity or an underrepresented group; and posters related to the conference theme, which is “From Science and Technology to Evidence-Based Practice: Enhancing Access through Integration.”

Other announcements included:
- awardees for the Alies Muskin Career Development Leadership Program, which gives early career clinicians and researchers the opportunity to discuss “anxiety, depression and co-occurring disorders in a diverse, multidisciplinary community,” during the conference, according to the ADAA website;
- member recognition awards including the Member of Distinction Award, the Jerilyn Ross Clinician Advocate Award, the Special Recognition Award, the Emerging Leader Award and the Champion Award; and
- awardees for the BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color) Membership Scholarship Program, which gives a 1-year ADAA membership to graduate degree students, interns, residents, postdoctoral fellow and early career professionals who are part of the BIPOC community.
Member awards will be presented at the opening session Thursday, and the BIPOC Membership Scholars will be recognized at the award ceremony Saturday.
