McLean ranked top hospital for psychiatry in the US

McLean Hospital, the largest psychiatric affiliate of Harvard Medical School, has been named the number one hospital for psychiatric care in America, according to the U.S. News & World Report 2018-2019 survey results.
This marks the second consecutive year and third time in the past 6 years that McLean has been ranked the top hospital for psychiatry throughout the U.S., according to a press release issued by the hospital. In addition, this is McLean’s 16th successive year as the top freestanding psychiatric hospital. Since 1811, McLean has been committed to training mental health professionals, supporting clinical mental illness research and developing novel, effective prevention and treatment methods, according to the release.
“We are honored to be ranked the top hospital for psychiatric care in the country, but while it is gratifying to earn this accolade, our greatest achievements happen each day across our campuses as we partner with our patients, their families, and their community-based providers,” Scott L. Rauch, MD, president and psychiatrist-in-chief at McLean Hospital, said in the press release. “Nothing gives us greater satisfaction than knowing that the work we do directly contributes to improving the lives of those affected by psychiatric illness.”
For adult psychiatric care, the 11 top-ranking hospitals are:

- Massachusetts General Hospital
- New York-Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia and Cornell
- Johns Hopkins Hospital
- Menninger Clinic
- Sheppard Pratt Hospital
- Mayo Clinic
- Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA
- Yale New Haven Hospital
- Austen Riggs Center
- UCSF Medical Center
The 2018-2019 rankings compared more than 4,500 national medical centers nationwide in 25 specialties, procedures and condition, according to the release. Overall, 158 hospitals receive national rankings in at least one specialty. The U.S. News Best Hospitals methodologies are largely or entirely based on risk-adjusted survival and readmission rates, volume, patient experience, patient safety and quality of nursing, and other care-related indicators.
