NEW YORK —Anita Everett, MD, current president of the American Psychiatric Association, highlighted two initiatives focused on burnout and innovation she has been involved in over the last year in a video interview with Healio Psychiatry at the APA Annual Meeting.

The first workgroup she discussed concentrated on promoting well-being and combating burnout. The group created a webpage that houses resources for burnout and an anonymous survey to get feedback on the burnout experienced by psychiatrists. Preliminary information from about 1,500 APA members revealed that approximately 74% experience burnout. Knowing more about burnout will help the organization target potential interventions.

The second initiative is about helping APA members think about innovation and technology as a way to better provide care to patients and to serve more individuals with mental illness. She discussed telepsychiatry and the importance of technology in allowing real-time consultation to patients who may have trouble getting care in person.
