The NIH’s Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development recently launched Moms’ Mental Health Matters, an initiative to increase awareness about depression and anxiety during and after pregnancy.

The initiative aims to reach pregnant and postpartum mothers, their families and health care providers.

The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development developed free health education materials in English and Spanish depicting signs and symptoms of depression and anxiety during pregnancy and after childbirth.

The materials address the misconception that “for all women, pregnancy and new motherhood can only be ‘the happiest time of your life.’”

In addition, the initiative offers resources regarding when and where mothers can seek help and how to communicate with loved ones about these issues.
