ATLANTA — Elspeth "Cam" Ritchie, MD, MPH, of the Society of Uniformed Services Psychiatrists, discusses proposals and action papers reviewed among the American Psychiatric Association Assembly prior to the start of the association’s annual meeting.

One of the hot topics among the assembly was discriminatory laws recently passed in the southern region of the United States.

“We spent a lot of time thinking about how the APA could stand up and whether or not they should do it condemning discrimination in general, as everyone knows discrimination is bad, or focus specifically on issues related to the LGBTQ community,” Ritchie told Healio.com/Psychiatry.

Other issues discussed included electronic health record confidentiality, prescribing practices regarding the opioid epidemic, and more.
