ORLANDO — In this video from the AIMed24 Annual Meeting, Buck Schneider, MHA, business development manager at Bayer, discusses the potential for AI solutions to solve “million-dollar problems” in radiology.
Schneider said there are issues in radiology that persist because they cannot be corrected organically. Instead, he said radiology as a specialty desperately requires the help of AI solutions.
However, due to resource constraints, Schneider added that these innovative AI solutions need to actively solve well-defined “million-dollar problems,” in order to benefit the field.
“Wouldn’t it be great if U.S. and European health systems could purchase technology, medical devices and AI software for innovation's sake, because it was novel, because it was good for patient care?” Schneider said. “The economic reality is, they cannot. Very few can afford to do that. So, what we are looking for is the key investments in AI that result in solving a million-dollar problem.”
He added, “What are the million-dollar problems that AI can solve? Or conversely, what are the million-dollar opportunities that AI can enable? That is where we have to be.”
