There have been several exciting innovations in pain management that primary care providers should know about, according to a speaker at the Osteopathic Medical Education Conference.
Sujan Gogu, DO, a sports and pain management physician in Edinburg, Texas, gave a presentation on recent innovations in the field at the American Osteopathic Association’s annual conference.
“When you look at this space, I think there’s a lot of really cool things that are coming into the forefront to help our patients,” Gogu told Healio.
For example, neuromodulation, peripheral nerve stimulation, cryoneurolysis and radiofrequency ablation are somewhat new options for various patients.
“I was really talking about present, cutting-edge technologies that we’re using in pain management,” he said. “Futuristic concepts that are going to play a role.”
Gogu also discussed broad concepts like the impact AI may have on pain management, as well as the novel and rapidly growing medical branch of regenerative medicine.
“That’s really focusing on repairing and replacing damaged tissue,” he said. “We’re seeing this used primarily in the musculoskeletal space, particularly targeting patients that have tendonitis, osteoarthritis, ligamentous injuries, just to provide better healing that’s quickly done.”
