DENVER — In this video, an expert highlighted several practices that she said are “recommended when implementing nutrition, and culinary medicine in particular, into obesity medicine practice.”

“Our goal has been to teach all of the different types of attendees [and] health care providers about culinary medicine and how it’s a really important and powerful component of obesity medicine to help make sure that whatever form of treatment or intervention that our patients are receiving can be as effective and sustainable as possible,” Christina Badaracco, MPH, RDN, LDN, a health care consultant at Rewire Health, said.

She explained such best practices include “adaptability based on our patients’ needs, based on unexpected circumstances that may arise [and] based on cultural preferences of the patients we’re serving.”

At the Obesity Medicine Association’s conference, Badaracco also highlighted the value of partnerships with community-based organizations in culinary medicine.

“We really wanted to call out to the providers in the room that community-based organizations can be really wonderful partners if maybe we don’t have our own facility, our own teaching kitchen,” she said.
