DENVER — More than 1,200 clinicians are coming together to learn more about obesity at the Obesity Medicine Association’s 2024 conference, according to a speaker here.

Angela Fitch, MD, FACP, FOMA, outgoing president of the Obesity Medicine Association (OMA) and chief medical officer of knownwell, an integrated primary and obesity care provider, noted that the conference — the first annual meeting of the OMA — comes at “a very exciting time for obesity treatment for many reasons.”

However, it is also a “challenging time” in obesity treatment in terms of insurance coverage and other issues that the OMA is advocating for “to get better care for patients with obesity,” Fitch added.

She also highlighted the theme of the meeting, which is “A New Path Forward.”

“I think obesity is really at the forefront of being in a new path forward in 2024,” she said. “It’s an exciting time to practice in obesity, and it’s an exciting time to be a member of the OMA.”
